One of the bigger beaches in LA, Santa Monica Beach is also one of the most popular. Unfortunately, that makes Santa Monica Beach a poor choice if you're looking for a little seclusion. However, if entertainment is what you seek and crowds don't bother you, then Santa Monica Beach is a great place to go. Take your bike or skate down the South Bay Bicycle Trail, go surfing, play a little volleyball, or visit Santa Monica Pier. Parking is available at Santa Monica Beach for a fee, or you can park at a nearby parking meter. Santa Monica Beach is open from 6am to dusk.

Further south along the coast is Manhattan Beach. This beach is more affluent and suburban than Santa Monica or Venice. As is the usual with southern California beaches -- volleyball nets, bike path, and surfing are all to be found here. Parking is available at nearby parking lots (paid), or at a parking meter. Manhattan Beach is open from 6am to dusk.
Hermosa Beach

Hermosa Beach is located just south of Manhattan Beach, along Los Angeles' coast, in the South Bay Area. A much quieter place than Santa Monica or Venice, Hermosa Beach is much like you would expect a southern California beach to be (or at least how the TV shows always depict it): laid back, with volleyball nets, perfect weather, and the South Bay Bike Path. Parking is available at nearby parking meters. Hermosa Beach is open from 6am to dusk.
